ST. LOUIS GLOBE-DEMOCRAT, Missouri, August 3, 1877

* Wild Bill Hickok killed (1st report)
* American gunfighter & gambler
* Deadwood, South Dakota - Black Hills

Page 2 has a terrific article on the famed Wild Bill Hickok and the particulars has to how he was killed, very rare found in period newspaper. He was shot a year prior to this report.
The article is headed: "Black Hills Characters" "Pancake Bill, Mysterious Jimmy, Laughing Sam" "Ten Die Brown and Wiry Jack---Wild Bill's Grave". Beginning with some details of some of the interesting characters from the Back Hills, it goes on to provide details of Wild Bill's death the year prior, with: "...it reminds me of J. B. Hicock, better known as Wild Bill, who came here from Cheyenne...and was assassinated on the 2d of August by Jack McCall. At the time Bill was killed he was sitting at a table in the Bella Union bar-room playing cards when McCall sneaked in the door, drew his revolver behind Bill's back and shot him through the head, saying, 'Damn you, take that.' McCall tried to escape but was caught & tried before a frightened jury..." with more on this (see). A very rare account.
The front page has some nice accounts of the Pennsylvania coal region near Wilkes Barre and Scranton, and also: "Custer's Heroes" "Arrival of Their Bodies at Leavenworth,, Ks." (see).
