ARIS'S BIRMINGHAM GAZETTE, England, Feb. 15, 1779

* Lieutenant Colonel John Laurens


The front page has a brief item noting: "...brought to Lord George Germaine's office...arrived from New York...an account of the surrender of the province of Georgia to his Majesty's Troops under the command of Col. Campbell..." Also a mention that the militia of Jamaica: "...consists of 10,000 men, besides 2000 Negroes, exceedingly well disciplined & much superior to European troops, as being accustomed to the climate." and also mention: "...that Congress were continually disputing about public affairs & were greatly divided; that very lately a duel was fought between Mr. Laurens, late President of the Congress, and General Lee, in which the latter was mortally wounded." [history says he was just wounded]
Page 2 has some items concerning the Revolutionary War, including a letter from Rhode Island (see).
Four pages, folio size, browning at the right margin with some margin tears, light water stain, red tax stamp.
