August 31, 1967

HERALD EXAMINER, Los Angeles, California, August 31, 1967

* Thurgood Marshall appointed by the president
* 1st African American Supreme Court Justice

Above the masthead on the front page has a great banner headline: "FIRST NEGRO JUSTICE TO SUPREME COURT" with subhead: "Johnson Appoints Thurgood Marshall" and photo. (see) Thurgood Marshall, the great-grandson of a slave, was the first African-American Justice on the Supreme Court (see hyperlink for more).
Incomplete issue containing the front and back leafs (pages 1-2 & 23-24) only of the 1st section of a normally 4 section issue. A few small margin tears, otherwise nice. Nice for display here.
