MISSOURI REPUBLICAN, St. Louis, Sept. 9, 1881
* Last Jesse James Gang robbery
* Blue Cut Train Robbery
* Glendale, Missouri
The top of page 4 has a nice stack of heads concerning the Blue Cut train robbery, done by Jesse James and his gang, the heads including: "PRARIE BANDITS" "A Train on the Chicago & Alton Railroad" "Boarded by a Band of Masked Robbers" "Who Mortally Wound the Express Messenger" "Rob the Express Car, the Passengers, and Escape--The Country Being Scoured for Them--A Repetition of the Winston Affair". The article takes almost an entire column with one of the subheads including: "Drink it For Jesse James" (see).
Terrific to have in a St. Louis newspaper as Glendale, the site of the robbery, is just over 12 miles from St. Louis. This is likely the closest newspaper to the event which could have reported, hence the good coverage.
Complete in 8 pages, browning at the margins with minor wear, generally good condition.
