September 07, 1941

THE NEW YORK TIMES, September 7, 1941

* The Yellow Star "Star of David" badge
* Jewish Holocaust takes a drastic turn (1st report)
* Jude - Jews - Judaica

The top of page 14 has a very significant Judaica item concerning their treatment by the Nazis under Hitler's rule, the one column heads including: "NAZIS ORDER JEWS OVER SIX LABELED" "All Above That Age Must Wear the Star of David, Secret Police Chief Rules" "Other New Restrictions" "None May Leave Areas in Reich in Which They Reside Without Official Permission". The article is datelined at Berlin and begins: "All Jews over 6 years of age were ordered...to wear a large yellow star of David with the black superscription 'Jew'...that Jews would not be permitted to leave the area in which they resided...Jews must not wear any orders or decorations..." with other particulars (see).
A very notable issue and perhaps the first report of the requirement to wear the Star of David on their clothing.

Other news, sports and advertisements of the day throughout with much on World War II. Complete in 80+ pages being a Sunday newspaper and this is the "rag edition" printed on very high quality newsprint specifically for institutions. Great condition.
