ARMY & NAVY JOURNAL, New York, July 16, 1864 As noted in the masthead this was the: "Gazette of The Regular & Volunteer Forces" and as such is replete with military news of all sorts.
The front page has: "The Campaign In Virginia" with a subhead: "The Battle At Monocacy" carrying over to pg. 2 where is also: "Before Petersburgh" and "General Sherman's Operations". Other items inside include: "The Sinking of the Alabama" "The Kearsarge & the Alabama" "The Future of Naval Warfare" "The Iron-Clads" "Particulars of General Franklin's Escape" "The Campaign in Maryland"; plus a letter signed: U.S. Grant, in which he dispels a rumor; and a letter signed: W. T. Sherman headed "Military Instructions for Georgia and Tennessee". Near the back is: "By the President Of the United States, A Proclamation" signed in type: Abraham Lincoln, concerning a day of thanksgiving and prayer.
Sixteen pages, 10 by 14 1/3 inches, nice eagle in the masthead, nice condition.
