January 20, 1865

DAILY EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, Jan. 20, 1865  The editorial begins with a very biased opinion (common with this newspaper): "The new governour of Tennessee--to succeed Johnson, the drunken tailor--is Brownlow, the brutal, blaspheming Methodist parson..." and further on: "...If Virginia should ever, unhappily, fall under the rule of Yankees, then cast your eye over the whole state & look for the worst, foulest, meanest ruffian in it--you may not find, perhaps, in all Virginia such a subterhuman wretch as Brownlow...a coward at once and a bully, a foaming preach...and who hates his neighbour like the devil..." with even more.
Various war reports include: "Latest News From The North" "From Tennessee" "Butler in Washington" "Confederates States Congress" "Abolition in Maryland" "The War News" "Army of the Tennessee" and other items.
Complete as a single sheet issue with a one column masthead (typical with Confederate newspapers late in the war as most paper mills were in the North), never bound nor trimmed, very nice condition.
