MISSOURI REPUBLICAN, St. Louis, Sept. 11, 1881 The top of the front page has a nice stack of heads concerning the Blue Cut train robbery, done by Jesse James and his gang, the heads including: "Beating The Bushes" "Excitement Rules the Hour in Jackson County" "Hunt for the Remaining Train Robbers Energetically Pushed" "There Seems to be But Little Chance for Any of Them to Escape" "As the Country is Up in Arms & Officers Are on the Right Trail" "Evidence that Jesse James Was the Leader of the Gang" with more (see). See the hyperlink for further details on the robbery. Great to have mention of "Jesse James" in one of the headlines.
The reporting is considerable, with much detail and having many subheads. The coverage takes nearly 1 1/2 columns. Terrific to have in a St. Louis newspaper as Glendale, the site of the robbery, is just over 12 miles from St. Louis. This is likely the closest newspaper to the event which could have reported, hence the lengthy coverage.
Also on the front page: "Sitting Bull's People" "Their Proposed Transfer to the Cheyenne Agency" "Gen. Terry Thinks the Army Should Settle the Question" and more.
Complete in 8 pages, browning at the margins, some minor margin tears, generally good condition.
