THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 7, 1973

* Ron Blomberg becomes 1st 'DH'
* New York Yankees
* MLB baseball

The front page has a two column action photo of Ron Blomberg with text that includes: "A First In Boston: Ron Blomberg of the Yankees at bat as the first Designated hitter..."
In the sport's section (page 23) has one column headings that include: "...Blomberg's 'dh' Bat Goes to Hall of Fame".

Great to have in this NYC title. Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 60 pages, never bound, very minor margin wear, otherwise nice condition.

wikipedia notes: Blomberg was the first major leaguer to play a game as a designated hitter. On April 6, 1973, at Fenway Park, he was walked by Red Sox pitcher Luis Tiant with the bases loaded in his first plate appearance of the game. The bat Blomberg used is in Cooperstown's Hall of Fame. In 1973, Blomberg finished with a healthy .329 average, .395 OBP, and .498 SLG in 301 at-bats. He hit .351 with runners in scoring position.
