* Ethan Allen

Over half of page 2 is taken up with a list of prisoner exchanges at New York, by rank (see). Page 3 has: "...important expedition with which Gen. Arnold has been entrusted makes them exceedingly anxious to hear from the Carolinas. The greatest & most sanguine expectations are formed of the known skill & intrepidity of Mr. Arnold..." and more. Further on: "...from New York...confirmation of Ethan Allen's having taken a decided part against Congress is worthy of peculiar attention. This adventurer has been for many years past a leading man in the district now known by the name of Vermont...Allen had been long endeavouring to get this district set off into a separate colony but failed in his attempt...he surprised and took possession of Ticonderoga & opened a passage for their troops into Canada..." with more.
Further on is a letter from Fredericksburg, Virginia to a friend in Philadelphia: "The enemy came to Richmond on Friday...with 1500 infantry & 60 horse...The destroyed public stores, burnt the public buildings..." and a letter from Fredericksburg: "General Arnold with about 1500 men...landed about 15 miles below Richmond..." and more, and also a letter form New York with further news, carrying over to the next page where is: "Would not General Sir Henry Clinton be as well employed in attacking General Washington's ragged army in its present distracted states as lying at New York waiting for favourable events...Sir William Howe too waited for favourable events, for three years--At Long Island and White Plains he waited for favourable events & to fight the rebels handsomely after they had run away. This from month to month & from year to year we go on without any decisive action..." with more.
