September 24, 1825

COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, Sept. 24, 1825  Page 2 has a report: "City Of Ararat" which begins: "The ceremony of consecrating the foundation stone of the new Hebrew city of Ararat, to be erected on Grand Isle, took place at Buffalo...Major Noah, Editor of the New York National Advocate, presided at the ceremony..." with the text of the dedication, and much more (see). There is also a document signed by the judge: A. B. Seixas (see). This was the project of newspaper publisher Mordecai Manuel Noah, who is credited with being the first Jew born in the United States to reach national prominence.
Also on page 2 has an interesting albeit brief report: "Cannibals" "A native of New Zealand has lately testified in London that he had seen thirty prisoners roasted and feasted upon." (see)
Four pages, very nice condition.
