October 24, 1935
DAILY RECORD, Boston, Oct. 24, 1935 This tabloid-size newspaper has one of the best front page reports on the death of outlaw Dutch Schultz to be had, with: "DUTCH SCHULTZ SHOT DOWN ! " in large, bold letters taking over half of the front page. The banner subhead notes: "Dying In Gang War; Four Pals Wounded" with various text, including two photos of him: one from 1925 & the other from 1935.
The second report on the front page, with a dateline of Oct. 23, begins: "Arthur (Dutch Schultz) Flegenheimer, colorful New York beer baron during the prohibition era, and two of his henchmen were shot down by two unknown assailants in a Park street chophouse tonight...". The first report has a dateline of Oct. 24 and notes Schultz's death (see).
Coverage is more extensive on page 2 where is found a banner headline: "Schultz, Four Guards Shot" and subhead: "Beer Baron Riddled In Gun Duel In Cafe" with more (see).
The issue is complete in 32 pages, has four somewhat long & wide binding slits at the blank spine, repaired on pg. 2 so almost unnoticeable on the front page, but not repaired on the remaining leaves. Otherwise in very nice, clean condition.
