The front page has a report from New York headed: "America" concerning a murder in Connecticut (see). Page 2 include: "...that Charlestown [Charleston] surrendered to Sir Henry Clinton on the 29th of March after great slaughter on the part of the enemy; & that the general & the whole British army were received with inexpressible joy by the Loyalists who proved more numerous than ever the most sanguine friends of government expected. Charlestown, the capital of South Carolina...is a commodious & secure harbour & the town is as well built as any in America..." with more descriptive text on Charleston (see). The surrender report is actually premature: Charleston did not surrender until May 12.
The back page has a letter from New York with much news on the battle of Young's House including: "...a detachment...of the four flank companies of the guards, 100 men from the Hessian regiments at King's Bridge...marched from the height near Fort Knyphausen...in order to surprise or attack an advanced corps of the rebel army...beyond the White Plains...The cavalry were ordered to advance to endeavour to surround the house to obstruct a retreat..." with more on this battle during which the British attacked & destroyed an American outpost in Westchester County just above New York City.
