Two engraved plates in an uncommon title...
Item # 579450 THE EUROPEAN MAGAZINE, London, May, 1782
* Uncommon 18th century British title
Certainly one of the less common titles from the 18th century, formatted much like the more popular "Gentleman's Magazine". This was the first year of its existence, and it would publish until 1826. The first article is an: "Authentic Anecdote of Sir Thomas Rumbold" with a full page engraving of him (see). Also in this issue is: "The Hive, a Collection of Scraps", "Account of the Execution of Mary, Queen of Scots" which also has a nice full page engraving; "A Brief Description of the Kingdom of Ireland". Near the back is the "Monthly Chronicle" which has various news reports of the day.
Complete in 80 pages, 5 by 8 1/2 inches, tiny binding holes at the blank spine, some small worm holes near the margins causing no loss of readability, generally in great condition. Contains both plates called for but lacking the pages of music.
