January 02, 1938

THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, January 2, 1938

* Rose Bowl: California Golden Bears vs. Alabama Crimson Tide
* Orange Bowl: Auburn Tigers vs. Michigan State Spartans
* Sugar Bowl: L.S.U. Tigers vs. Santa Clara Broncos
* Cotton Bowl: Rice Owls vs. Colorado Buffaloes

This 60+ page newspaper has a nice banner headline on the front page of the sport's section (inside): "90,000 WATCH CALIFORNIA TRIUMPH OVER ALABAMA, 13-0" with subheads and related photo.

Also much reporting on the Orange, Cotton and Sugar Bowl games.

Other news of the day. Light browning, otherwise in good condition..

wikipedia notes: The 1938 Rose Bowl was played on January 1, 1938, and was the 24th Rose Bowl. The game featured the California Golden Bears against the Alabama Crimson Tide, two of the top teams from the 1937 college football season. This game was the fifth trip to Pasadena for the Tide, which won all four previous Rose Bowl games.
