December 12, 1930
THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, December 12, 1930
* Notre Dame officially become National Champions
* Last before Knute Rockne's death
* Fighting Irish college football
This 52 page newspaper has two small one column headlines on page 31: "RANKS FOOTBALL TEAMS" "Dr. Dickinson Gives Mid-West the Edge Over East in 7 Years"
Tells of the official Dickinson rating system which was used at the times that gave Notre Dame the National Championship. They had beaten USC a few days earlier. This would also be the last for Knute Rockne prior to his death.
Not the greatest headline here but it is what it is, a first report.
Other news of the day throughout. Rag edition in great condition.
wikipedia notes: The 1930 college football season saw Notre Dame repeat as national champion under the Dickinson system, and a post-season Rose Bowl matchup between two unbeaten (9-0-0) teams, Washington State and Alabama, ranked #2 and #3, respectively. Alabama won the Pasadena contest, 24-0.
