THE STAR, Island of Guernsey, July 3, 1940

* Historic Guernsey issue
* Nazis overtake island
* World War II

This  newspaper was published on this island in the English Channel and was occupied by the Germans during almost all of WWII. During the Nazi occupation they took over this newspaper and filled it with pro-German propaganda, offering a unique insight into how the Axis reported the news during the war.
Most of the ftpg. is taken up with a lengthy list of: "ORDERS OF THE COMMANDANT OF THE GERMAN FORCES IN OCCUPATION OF THE BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY Dated The 2nd Day of July, 1940". This issue is from the very beginning of German occupation and this document spells out what may and may not happen on the island, beginning with: "The German Command has taken over the military powers in the Islands of Guernsey and Jersey. The population is hereby required to retain calmness, order and discipline..." with much more (see).
A terrific issue to have concerning the occupation of this English-speaking island. Some light toning, generally in nice condition.
