Yellow baseballs 1st use in MLB....
Item # 568943
August 03, 1938
THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, August 3, 1938 This 38 page newspaper has a banner headline on page 22: "Hubbell Routed as Giants Lose to Cubs; Dodgers Capture Two; Yanks Beaten" with subheads that include: "Dodgers return to Fifth Place By Routing Cardinals, 6-2, 9-3" "...Yellow Ball Used in Opener..." and more with box scores.
As an experiment, bright yellow baseballs are used in the first game of the doubleheader. The teams go back to the the traditional white ball in the nightcap. Nice to have in this famous NYC title.
Other news of the day throughout. Light browning, otherwise in good condition.
