THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, January 25, 1781 The front page has reports from a letter from Charleston which includes: "The 63rd regiment surprised a post of about 500 men on the Pee dee River; they got into their camp unperceived...The Major was made a prisoner & it is feared he will not recover..." and also: "...confirmation is received of the defeat of a large body of the rebel army under the command of General Sumpter on the frontiers of North Carolina bu his Majesty's forces under Col. Tarleton, in which the American General...was taken prisoner..." with more (see).
An inside page has an item noting: "The Congress on the 3rd of November passed the following vote in favour of the tree virtuous and patriotic soldiers of the Jersey militia who took Major Andre and refused a large sum to let him go..." with a bit more on this, and ending with: "...The Congress have, on the 4th of October, further resolved, 'That the name of Benedict Arnold should be erased from the list which contains the names of the officers of the army of the United States.' "
There is another report on the back page which note: "...the various reports propagated mentioning the defeat of Lord Cornwallis are erroneous...last official accounts were of a very favourable nature...the first intelligence we get will find Lord Cornwallis's having completed his grand object of securing an important post in North Carolina." Eight pages, some dirtiness and light rubbing to the front page, otherwise in nice condition.
