February 13, 1931

NEW YORK TIMES, New York, NY, February 13, 1931

* Premier of the movie Dracula : Bela Lugosi

Page 21 of this issue contains a very nice & lengthy review of the movie "Dracula", which has certainly gone on in the world of film making to be one of the all time classics. This review marks its premiere to the world.

It is curious that Wikipedia notes: "...When the film finally premiered on Valentine's Day 1931, newspapers reported that members of the audiences fainted in shock at the horror onscreen...", however this report dated February 13 states: "...It is a production that evidently had the desired effect upon many in the audience yesterday afternoon for there was a general outburst..." which indicates it was shown on February 12 rather than February 14.

See the photos for the complete movie review. The same page has at the very bottom a rather small advertisement for "Dracula" appearing at the Roxy Theater (see).

A terrific issue for any film buff, with the very first review of this classic horror movie from the Golden Era of movie making.

This is the complete 36 page issue, light browning with little margin wear, otherwise good.
