OFFICIAL (BASEBALL) RECORD, New York, August 19, 1886

* Rare 19th century baseball periodical
* Nice masthead and player portrait

The front page of this issue has a nice portrait and a biographical sketch of "Edward Hanlon". Better known as Ned Hanlon, he was a player-manager and won five pennants in seven years with Baltimore and Detroit. He won 1,315 games as a manager which still ranks among the best. He was an eventual Hall of Fame inductee.

This is a volume 2 issue of a very rare and historically important baseball newspaper, the very first daily sports newspaper dedicated entirely to the national game of professional baseball.

This title could well be the most important contemporary record of 19th century professional baseball.

The terrific baseball-themed masthead reads: "Official Record" while the title at the top of pages 2, 3 & 4 reads: "Official Baseball Record".

The issue is filled with baseball news and baseball-related content. Browned & pulpish at the edges, lower part of the spine is a bit irregular.
