This 44 page newspaper has a one column headline on the front page of the sport's section (page 25): "Golf Rookie Wins With Record 62" which tells of Phil Rodgers winning the Los Angeles Open golf tournament.
But of more significance within this article which continues on page 26 has in part: "Jack Nicklaus, 1961 national Amatuer champion recently turned pro.... (see)"
This was his very 1st professional golf appearance. I was surprised that he was even mentioned here because he ended up in 50th place in this event.
A discrete report, but a very first in this famous golfer's pro career.
Other news of the day. Some spine wear with some small binding holes and a few tiny archival mends, otherwise good.
