July 06, 1863

THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, July 6, 1863 This is one of the best newspapers to be had on the final result of the battle of Gettysburg.  The Philadelphia Inquirer was always among the best in terms of graphic appeal, and this issue does not disappoint, with very nice first column headlines--highlighted by a nice graphic of a waving flag--reading:
"VICTORY!!" "Waterloo Eclipsed!!" "The Desperate Battles Near Gettysburg! Repulse of the Rebels At All Points!!"
"Gen. Lee Reported in Full Retreat, Pursued by Gen. Meade's Forces" "Many Thousands Of Rebels Captured" "The Rebel Loss Truly Frightful" "Over 20,000 Killed & Wounded" "Official Despatches from Gen. Meade" "Lee Ordered to Return to Richmond" "President Lincoln Congratulates the Union Army".
The entire front page is taken up with reports on the Battle of Gettysburg, which carries over to take most of the back page as well, including a partial list of the killed & wounded. There is extensive coverage on page 3 also.
Complete in 8 pages and never bound nor trimmed (desirable as such). A printing flaw in the bottom right corner causes no loss of text. Mild wear at the wedges, and just a slight bit of foxing at the central fold. Generally in very nice condition and a very historic & handsome issue for display with one of the best reports of all major newspapers of this date.
