THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, June 1, 1780.

This issue contains an excellent, 1 1/2 page letter signed in type by General H. Clinton datelined Savannah, in Georgia, Jan. 20, 1780, in which he gives much detail of his recent actions. Included are bits such as:
* "...your Lordship's instructions to evacuate Rhode Island & to condense & dispose of the King's troops...afford the most substantial protection of New York...The regular troops under General Washington amounted at this period to 16,000 men...the works at Brooklyn & on Governor's Island were enlarged & improved...Washington remained in his fastnesses at the Highland, & so posted, as to use the Hudson to the greatest advantage...Reinforcements of cavalry have also arrived from General Washington & other reinforcements are also on their march. Lincoln has been industrious & successful in putting Charlestown in the best posture of defence...The garrison in this case must evacuate the town or become prisoners..." with so much more. T
