A page 2 item references a New York paper stating in part that: ...there are 2200 women of the night in that city who openly live by impure lascivious practices, and that there are 40,000 sewing women, one half of whom are compelled to resort at times to similar conduct to avoid starvation!  And a bit more. Other news of the day includes: "The Canal", "Chinese Industry", and more. Several ads as well. Archival mend to a tear on the second leaf, some lite foxing. An early Indiana newspaper.
