THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, Pennsylvania, Aug. 17and 18, 1864 The front page features a nice map headed: "GENERAL BUTLER'S CANAL. Shortening the River Route at Dutch Gap--Seven miles of Sailing on the James Saved--Another Yankee Enterprise" shows where the canal was cut, and also shows other towns and landmarks in the vicinity including Janney, Watkin, Bermuda Hundreds, City Point, Walthall, Broadway, Faracs Island, Westbrook, and Malvern Hill. Over half of the first column on the front page is taken up with war-related heads including: "Imporrant From James River" "Another Brilliant Achievement" "Farragut's Splendid Achievement" "Forts Gaines & Powell in Our Possession" "Gen. Granger Investing Fort Morgan" "Latest from Gen. Sheridan" "No Rebel Force this Side the Blue Ridge" "Close Pursuit of Gen. Early's Army" and more (see photos). The 2nd front page has even more one column heads (see photos). This is the tri-weekly edition of the Inquirer, meaning within its 8 pages is a second full front page with masthead, headlines, etc. (see photo) essentially giving you two complete front pages dated Aug. 17 & 18 among the 8 pages in this issue!
