ATHENIAN MERCURY, London, Jan. 3, 1692. Taking all of the front page of this singlesheet (first part is shown in the inset) is a: "A Voluntary On The Nativity Of Our Blessed Lord. Christmas-Day. 1692." Very unusual to have such a bold Christmas item in a newspaper this early, especially on the front page! This issue also has an ad for a book: "The Tryals of Several Witches lately executed in New England" written by noted clergyman Cotton Mather. This is the only periodical that we have ever seen with any reference to the famous Witch Trials at Salem Massachusetts. A unique and very uncommon item as well! Great to have both these items in a single issue! Lite dampstaining in the upper and lower left corners with just a bit in the text of the Voluntary, otherwise in very good condition.
