WALLA WALLA STATESMAN, Washington, 1867  This 4 page newspaper has news of the day with several interesting advertisements. With newspapers West of the Mississippi being very rare prior to 1900, here is an opportunity to get a issue from the old West back when cowboys, Indians, saloons, gold miners & gunfights were often seen on a regular basis. Very early for Washington. Nice condition.  The image shown is representative of what you will receive, but actual dates vary.
 

DESERET EVENING NEWS, Salt Lake City, Utah Territory, March 8, 1890 This newspaper is a "territorial" issue, printed six years before Utah would become a state. The front page has a short yet interesting item concerning Buffalo Bill, datelined from Rome & reading: "An Italian journal, commenting on the Wild West show, makes the astounding announcement that Buffalo Bill held the grand rank of colonel under Washington in the great war." MISSION MIRROR, San Francisco, Dec. 13, 1879  Printed in the masthead is: "The only Paper Wholly Printed and Published at the Mission, a Locality Containing 20,000 Inhabitants."  This would be the famous Mission Delores, still located on 16th St. (see photos & the hyperlink).
Page 2 has a political notice supporting: "For president in 1880, Ulysses S. Grant, of Illinois".
Four pages, some margin wear with minimal text loss (see lower left corner in photo), should be handled with care.

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., April 21, 1849  Page 2 has most of a column taken up with: "The Emigration to California" and: "The California Fever" and: "Government Expeditions to California" and: "More Overland California Companies". This is followed by most of a column headed: "The Mexican Route to California".
Then page 3 has most of a column with the: "Latest Reports From California". Another article: "Slaves For California".
Four pages, very nice condition.

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., April 25, 1849  Page 2 has nearly a full column on: "Bay of San Francisco & Dependent Country".
Page 3 has: "Overland Journey to California" "More California Gold" "Photography In A New Form" and: "A New California Enterprise".

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Aug. 3, 1849  Page 2 has a simply terrific & very lengthy letter on California, taking nearly two columns it is headed: "A Mexican View Of California" "California Seen by a Mexican--Description of the Country--Its Physical, Agricultural, Commercial, and Mineralogical Characteristics".
This is perhaps the best description of California from such an early date. The photos show only portions.
Page 2 also has: "Great Britain and the Slave Trade"…

Page 3 has a variety of reports under: "From California" which has the latest reports concerning the Gold Rush, a few bits noting: "...Gold is plenty, large quantities being brought every day from the placers...The quantity was thought inexhaustible...The health at the placers is very bad...A kind of Lynch law remains in force..." and more.

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Nov. 22, 1858  Page 3 includes: "Salt Lake Correspondence" which has various news reports from Utah. One item of discussion is whether the seat of government should be in Fillmore City.

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., Sept. 16, 1858  Page 3 has an article: "Capt. Townsend of the Slaver" which begins: "Capt. Townsend, so called, of the slaver Echo, was brought before the U.S. Commissioner...It was distinctly proved that the Echo attempted to escape before her character was suspected...There were found on board 318 African negroes..." with much more on how the capture happened.
