Here is a collection of seven issues of GLEASON'S MONTHLY COMPANION magazine, Boston, all dated from 1874-1875, six of which still have the original pink or yellow outer wrappers (rarely found as such) with the remaining issue having the outer wrappers lacking. All issues have some edge wear as is typical, and all issues contain about 50 pages. A nice group of never-bound magazines. Each measures about 6 1/2 by 10 inches.

This was one of several titles published by the successful Frederick Gleason, known as the "father of illustrated journalism" with this very successful "Gleason's Pictorial Drawing-Room Companion" in 1851, modelled after the "Illustrated London News" & later copied by both Harper and Leslie.

THE JENNY LIND, Boston This is an 1851 souvenir newspaper from Jenny Lind's legendary first American tour, featuring portraits and articles on the "Swedish Nightingale" and P. T. Barnum, who managed her tour. Barnum's advance publicity made Lind a celebrity even before she arrived in the U.S., and tickets for her first concerts were in such demand that Barnum sold them by auction.
