GLEASON'S PICTORIAL, Boston MA, August 19, 1854. This 16 page newspaper is one of the few illustrated newspapers of that time. The famed Harper's Weekly didn't start until 1857. The woodcuts in these issues give the public a sense of what was going on around America at the time.
