1996 opening day "Michael" film advertisement...

Item # 730768 ·

LOS ANGELES TIMES, Oct. 6, 1996 (an original vintage newspaper leaf from the Calendar section)  This offering consists of four complete pages (two double-sided sheets on one single leaf), serving as a rare piece of cinematic ephemera, highlighted by an original vintage print advertisement announcing the opening day release of  "MICHAEL" starring John Travolta on one of the pages. (see images).

In addition to the featured movie ad, which captures the era's distinct theatrical promotional graphics and classic key art, the surrounding pages provide a fascinating snapshot of late 20th-century entertainment and pop culture. Printed on authentic newsprint with genuine vintage toning, this original leaf is not a modern reprint, making it an ideal piece for custom framing, film history display, or inclusion in a dedicated cinema memorabilia collection.

Background: Released in 1996 and directed by Nora Ephron, the fantasy-comedy Michael stars John Travolta as the Archangel Michael, a delightfully unconventional celestial messenger sent to Earth whose earthly habits include chain-smoking, indulging in junk food, and smelling powerfully of sugar, all while sporting a pair of bedraggled wings. The film follows cynical tabloid reporters Frank Quinlan (William Hurt) and Huey Driscoll (Robert Pastorelli) alongside "angel expert" Dorothy Winters (Andie MacDowell), who are dispatched by The National Mirror to investigate an elderly Iowa woman's claim that she is housing the archangel. What begins as a skeptical assignment transforms into a transformative road trip back to Chicago, during which Michael works behind the scenes to mend the broken hearts of his traveling companions, impart lessons on love and forgiveness, and navigate a series of quirky misadventures—including a memorable bar-dance scene—before his time on Earth ultimately comes to an end.
