Winslow Homer's "Sharp-Shooter"... At a bargain...

Item # 730685 ·

HARPER'S WEEKLY (single print), New York, Nov. 15, 1862  This authentic, stand-alone, full-page woodcut engraving features Winslow Homer's desirable:  "THE ARMY OF THE POTOMAC - A SHARP_SHOOTER ON PICKET DUTY", from an original November 15, 1862 issue of Harper's Weekly.

This print is widely acclaimed as Winslow Homer's most famous and important Civil War creation. Sent to the front lines as a special artist for Harper's Weekly, Homer captured a Union sharpshooter perched silently in a pine tree, aiming a scope-mounted rifle at an unseen target. The image marked a dramatic shift in military art, portraying the chilling, modern reality of long-range warfare and technological lethalness rather than traditional romanticized battle lines. Servicing as the direct inspiration for his famed 1866 oil painting, this iconic woodcut is universally recognized as a masterpiece of 19th-century American graphic art and remains one of the single most famous, highly prized, and sought-after Civil War prints ever published.

Single full-page print, measuring approximately 10 13/4 by 15 3/4 inches, in very good condition. A great opportunity to own this desirable print at less than half price. To view the listing for a complete issue for this date, go to 172624.
