 I suspect this to be an extremely rare item because there was really no reason to save it at the time.

Background: The discovery of Steven Hicks' pulverized remains at Jeffrey Dahmer's Bath Township home was a pivotal moment in forensic anthropology and serial killer investigations, marked by both its gruesome nature and extreme technical rarity. Dahmer’s calculated attempt to destroy evidence by exhuming the corpse, using a sledgehammer to crush the skeleton into tiny fragments, and scattering the shards across a dense, wooded ravine created an extraordinarily complex search site. Unlike standard mass graves or intact burial sites, forensic investigators had to sift through acres of forest floor to recover minuscule, degraded bone chips and partial dental fragments. Forensic anthropologists successfully matched these small, weathered shards to Hicks using bone microstructure analysis and dental restoration records, a rare and groundbreaking forensic feat in 1991 given the severe physical degradation of the remains after 13 years of exposure to environmental elements.
