1980 opening day premiere "Divine Madness" film L.A. advertisement...

Item # 729149 ·
This authentic "Calendar" section leaf from the Sept. 21, 1980 Sunday edition of the Los Angeles Times—comprising a complete, original four-page layout—serves as a rare piece of cinematic ephemera, highlighted by an original vintage print advertisement announcing the opening day release of  "DIVINE MADNESS" starring Bette Midler & The Hartlettes  on one of the pages. (see images).
In addition to the featured movie ad, which captures the era's distinct theatrical promotional graphics and classic key art, the surrounding pages provide a fascinating snapshot of late 20th-century entertainment and pop culture. Printed on authentic newsprint with genuine vintage toning, this original leaf is not a modern reprint, making it an ideal piece for custom framing, film history display, or inclusion in a dedicated cinema memorabilia collection.

Background: Directed by Michael Ritchie and filmed live over three nights at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in California, Divine Madness (1980) captures Bette Midler at the peak of her theatrical prowess, blending bawdy vaudeville stand-up, campy character sketches, and powerhouse musical arrangements. Backed by her dynamic singing and dancing group, The Harlettes, Midler commands the stage as her alter ego, "The Divine Miss M," effortlessly shifting from sharp, boundary-pushing comedic monologues—including her famous Sophie Tucker jokes—to deeply emotive musical numbers. The concert's varied repertoire highlights her incredible vocal range, featuring her signature brassy cover of "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," a soulful rendition of Tom Waits' "Shiver Me Timbers," energetic takes on "Chapel of Love" and "Leader of the Pack," as well as an explosive rock medley incorporating tracks by Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan. While the film presents the complete high-energy spectacle of her live performance, the top-40 Atlantic Records soundtrack album released the same year stripped away the spoken-word comedy to focus entirely on its standout musical recordings.
