 The back page has a small report: "Mormons" noting: "Orrin Porter Rockwell, the Mormon, who has been accused of being the person who attempted to assassinate ex-governor Boggs, of Missouri, last summer, was apprehended at St. Louis on the 6th instant and committed to jail. He will now haver to stand his trial."
Background:Orrin Porter Rockwell was a legendary and controversial figure in early Mormon history. Born in 1813, he was a close friend and bodyguard to Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Rockwell played a key role in protecting Smith and other early Mormon leaders during periods of persecution. Known for his fierce loyalty, gunfighting skills, and long hair (which he believed gave him divine protection), he became a folk hero among Latter-day Saints. After Smith’s death in 1844, Rockwell continued to serve as a lawman and protector of Mormon settlers in Utah under Brigham Young. His life blended elements of faith, violence, and frontier justice, earning him both admiration and notoriety.
