Item # 716025 ·
MIDDLESEX GAZETTE, Middletown, Connecticut, Feb. 2, 1815  Page 2 has much on the: "Shipwreck Of The Sylph". Page 3 has: "Capture of the President Frigate" followed by: "Extract of a letter from an American Officer on board the British frigate Pomone, late of the U.S. frigate President...".
Then: "IMPORTANT....GLORIOUS NEWS!" which is breaking news reading: "I just heard a great huzza from Mr. Russin's. On inquiry, it appears a gentleman had just passed through...who states that General Jackson has had an engagement with the British at New Orleans, and defeated them, killed and taken 4,000 with the loss of 900 men on our side."
