EDINBURGH EVENING COURANT, Scotland, May 26, 1777  Pages 2 & 3 have some reports on the Revolutionary War, bits including: "...received advices...from New York which give an account of some further advantages gained over the rebels & that several dispatches had passed between Lord & Sir William Howe & the ruling powers of the Congress..." and: "...that an engagement lately happened near that place between seven privateers fitted out by the Colonists...when after a warm contest one of the privateers was sunk & the others were beat off. The report of an action in the Jerseys on the 23d of March (which was said to have terminated in favour of the provincials) is totally void of foundation." and more.
Also: "The ministry assert that the distresses of the Congress are so great that they have not been able to pay their troops for a year past by any other mode than paper, which is generally disliked...". Another section headed "America" has reports from Boston.
