BOSTON PATRIOT, Dec. 11, 1813  Over half of page 2 is taken up with the: "President's Message" being the annual state-of-the-union address by the President, signed by him in type: James Madison.
In his message he praises Captain Oliver Hazard Perry for his important victory at the Battle of Lake Erie, stating in part: "...On Lake Erie, the squadron under command of Captain Perry, having met the British squadron, of superior force, a sanguinary conflict ended in the capture of the whole. The conduct of that officer, adroit as it was daring, and which was so well seconded by his comrades, entitle them to the admiration and gratitude of their country; and will fill an early passage in its naval annals, with a victory never surpassed in lustre, however much it may have been in magnitude...". Plus much more commentary on the War of 1812 as well.
