THE WAR, New York, Nov. 7, 1812  The entire front page & some of page 2 are taken up with a letter from Gen. Van Rensselaer to Gen. Henry Dearborn datelined from "Head-Quarters, Lewiston". In this famous battle, which happened just the day before the letter was written, Van Rensselaer led his forces across the Niagara River to capture Queenston Heights, Ontario. British General Isaac Brock was killed but the Americans were ultimately defeated.
Page 2 also has: "Another Naval Victory" concerning the Wasp capturing the British ship Frolic. Pages 2, 3 & most of page 4 contain the: "Message" of the President, being his state-of-the-union address signed: James Madison. This address has much on the War of 1812.
Four pages, 9 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
