October 13, 1768
THE NEW-YORK JOURNAL OR THE GENERAL ADVERTISER, Oct. 13, 1768  A fine issue from this troubling period when tensions between America & England were increasing.
Among reports inside are: "We are told many of the principal inhabitants of Boston are removing with their families and effects to other colonies." Also reports including: "...and troops, but in no worse state than are the inland fortresses & settlements from whence the garrisons had been before withdrawn...was throwing of sky rockets and those passing in boats observed great rejoicings, and that the Yankey Doodle song was the capital piece in their band of music..." and more concerning British troops in Boston.
Another report notes: "...that representations had gone from hence to General Gage at New York...that we are in a state of rebellion...advice that more troops may be expected from New York...at about 1 o'clock all the troops landed under cover of the can of the ships of war & marched into the Common with muskets charged, bayonets fixed, colours flying, drums beating and fifes etc. playing..." and more details concerning housing of the troops.
From Boston: "We hear there are above 200 families in this town that have agreed not to use any more TEA. We also hear the inhabitants of Charlestown have unanimously agreed to the same."
Page 3 has more on the tensions with England, noting in part: "...the Govern had called & treated them as an unlawful Assembly... disaffection to his Majesty's government as by law established, or any illegal designs whatsoever...assembled from divers town...to make known to each other their loyal & dutiful dispositions...for the redress of grievances...lament that their petitions have not been suffered to reach the Royal Ear, complain that if the late Acts imposing Taxes, etc are continued, they have only the name left of free subjects, and cannot be conceived to have any property at all..." with more.
Four pages, never-trimmed margins, disbound, minor loss to a back leaf margin affects only 2 ads, archival strengthening at the blank spine, good condition.
