November 22, 1963
THE SPRINGFIELD UNION, Mass., Jan 11, 1956

* 5 American missionaries kidnapped.
* Nate Saint & Jim Elliot captured with 3 others
* Operation Auca - Ecuador

The front page has a 3-column headline: "Fear Five U.S. Missionaries Seized by Savage Indians". Additionally, page 6 has continuing coverage which includes one of the men was killed immediately and the plane was destroyed. This group of missionaries were trying to establish friendly contact with Auca tribe in Ecuador.
Note: Within 2 days of the above report it would be discovered that all 5 men had been killed. This is the event which inspired the documentary "End of the Spear" and the book, "Through Gates of Splendor", by Elizabeth Elliot.
Complete with 36 pages, light toning and a minor wear at the margin, small archival, generally nice.
