GAZETTE OF THE UNITED STATES, New York, Nov. 4, 1789  The front page has an address of Harvard University to the President concerning his visit there, with his reply headed: “To the President and Fellows of Harvard University in Cambridge” signed in type: George Washington. This is followed by an address of the people of Boston to the President, with Washington’s reply to them signed: G. Washington.
All of page 2 is taken up with reports on the President’s visit to New England, with much on the parade in his honor at Boston. This carries over to page 3 where also is found a poem: “To Columbia’s Favorite Son”, and also: “Ode to the President of the United States on his Arrival at Boston”, plus even more concerning Washington’s visit.
Half of page 4 is taken up with reports from the earliest days of the Senate with dates from May 4 thru 12, including wording for some of the very first Acts of Congress, and one item noting: “The question was taken ‘Whether the President of the United States shall be addressed by the title of His Excellency? And it passed in the negative.” with more on this discussion.
Four pages, very nice condition.
