Item # 700044
May 25, 1861
THE ILLUSTRATED LONDON NEWS, England, May 25, 1861  The prime content would be the great doublepage centerfold which is a great, expansive: "Bird's Eye View of The City of Washington, With the Capital In the Foreground".
Over half of the front page is taken up with a nice print of: "Harper's Ferry, Virginia" with a related article inside.
Page 3 has: "The Civil War In America" with nearly a column of reporting.  This print of the Capitol shows it with the new dome under construction, a somewhat rare print from the era. There is a related article inside.
Also within is an article: "The American Revolution - The Border Slave States" and then a full page print: "The War Excitement in New York: Scene in Front of a Fire Engine House". Also two nearly half page prints of: "The Civil War In America - Fort Monroe, Virginia, as Seen from the James River" and: "Fort Smith, Arkansas, Recently Captured from the U.S. by the Secessionists", with related articles.
England had a vested interest in the war, supporting the Confederacy because of its great need for cotton.
Complete in 24 pages, very nice condition.
