English Civil War newsbook with much military reporting...

Item # 692421 ·

A PERFECT DIURNALL Of Some PASSAGES & PROCEEDINGS Of and in relation to the ARMIES In ENGLAND and IRELAND", London, January 28, 1649  (1650 by today's calendar)  Printed just beneath the title is: "Licensed by the Secretary of the Army Under His Excellency the Lord Fairfax."
Lord Fairfax was a general for Parliament during the English Civil War, fighting against Charles I, but he would be overshadowed by his subordinate, Oliver Cromwell.
As the title suggests this newsbook had a strong focus on military reports. It was printed near the end of the third of the English Civil Wars.
This title's backing of the Parliamentarian's forces (the Commonwealth) is evident in first article on the front page, which relates to the sale of the King's lands. There is much Civil War-related reporting throughout the issue.
The top of page 3 has a report concerning pirates: "The Pirats belonging to the island of Silly [Scilly] doe much infest the sea-coasts, they have two or three small frigots that lately took two ships belonging to this towne; we hope some course will be shortly taken to interrupt them."
Complete in 8 pages, 6 1/2 by 8 1/4 inches, ample margins, very nice condition.
