KENDALL'S EXPOSITOR, Washington, D.C., June 30, 1841  The back page has an uncommonly lengthy report headed: "The Mormons". It begins: "This strange sect is, it seems, about to get into new difficulties..." which concerns their taking over land in Iowa, which as given to the Sac & Fox Indians but abandoned by them. Its notes: "...the Mormon leader, Jo Smith...had a revelation from Heave to the effect that (they) should go over the Mississippi and possess this fair land..." with more.
Also mention that: "Martin Harris, an apostate from the Mormons, who has been preaching against them, was recently found murdered...He was one of the witnesses of the Book of Mormon...Jo Smith has been arrested...This has no doubt exasperated the Mormons."
This was an uncommon title which lasted but 4 years. The prospectus (not here) notes it was a semi-weekly devoted to "...the security of the right of suffrage by additional laws to punish bribery & fraud...an exposure of abuses & corruptions in government..." and more.
Amos Kendall was Postmaster General under Andrew Jackson, later publishing this small, bi-weekly newspaper from 1841-1844 He was very pro-democrat and anti-Whig.
Complete in 16 pages, 5 3/4 by 8 3/4 inches, nice condition.
