MINNEAPOLIS SUNDAY TRIBUNE, Minnesota, April 22, 1945  Page 3 has an interesting article on those who recent raised the flag on Iwo Jima, the article headed: "Melting Pot Forged In Blood: Iwo Flag Raising Mirrors America". Features is the iconic (and Pulitzer Prize-winning) photo, with insets of the six soldiers who participated. The article emphasizes their ethnic diversity.
