The first 2 1/2 pages are taken up with a lengthy & detailed report on the establishment of a penal colony in Botany Bay. It begins: "While the plan for settling a colony at Botany Bay is preparing to be carried into execution..." with much more, & including a description of the country as well as the natives (Aborigines) of the area (see). A wealth of terrific & very early content on Australia. Also included is content concerning a medal of Queen Elizabeth including a plate of it (see). Some content on the Shays' Rebellion as well. Complete in 90 pages, full title/contents page featuring an engraving of St. John's Gate. Measures 5 by 8 inches and is in very good condition.
A very nice magazine from the "mother country" not long after the end of the Revolutionary War with a wide range of varied content including news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
