THE TOPEKA STATE JOURNAL, Kansas, Sept. 29, 1920  The front page has nice coverage of what became known as the "Black Sox" scandal, where several players of the Chicago White Sox team were accused of throwing the 1919 Baseball World Series. The heads include: "Six More Indictments; Baseball Probe Spreads" "Confession After Confession Reveals Inside Workings of Great Gambling Plot to Wreck National Sport" "New York Will Probe Scandal" "Grand Jury ON Gamblers' Trail" "Six More Face Charges" "Entire Team To Be Quizzed" "Ball Players' Confessions Give Details of Loss of the 1919 World Series by Sox" "Cicotte Said He Needed Money for Mortgage on Farm & for 'The Wife & Kids'--double-crossed Out of $100,000 Split" and more. Also featured on the front page are photo of: "Players Involved IN World Series Scandal" which include Eddie Cicotte, Joe Jackson and six others (see).
Complete in 12 pages, various tears to the margins, otherwise in very nice, clean condition.
