January 16, 1772
THE MASSACHUSETTS SPY OR THOMAS'S BOSTON JOURNAL, Boston, Jan. 16, 1772  See the photo for the very decorative and displayable masthead--which was engraved by Paul Revere. This is one of the more famous mastheads and titles of the 18th century, as publisher Isaiah Thomas was not just a successful publisher but a leading patriot of his day who moved his newspaper business from Boston to Watertown when Boston was occupied by the British. There were several versions of the Revere masthead in this title from 1784, this being the earliest.
The content is varied, from a front page letter concerning liberty to various editorial reports, news from Europe and news from New York, and Boston, plus a great wealth of advertisements.
The best feature of this issue would be the excellent condition which combined with the nice Paul Revere masthead makes this an excellent newspaper for display.
Four pages, great condition, measures 11 by 16 1/2 inches.
