THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, July 22, 1780
* General George Washington description
Inside has nearly a full column article headed: "A Short Sketch of the Life and character of Gen. Washington" and is a very nice article on him, and interesting to find this report in a British newspaper. Portions include: "...General Washington is now in the forty-seventh year of his age; he is a tall well-made man, rather large boned & has a tolerably genteel address; his features are mainly & bold, his eyes of a bluish cast, and very lively...There is a remarkable air of dignity about him, with a striking degree of gracefulness...In temper rather reserved; a total stranger to religious prejudices, which have so very often excited Christians of one denomination to cut the throats of those of another; in his morals he is irreproachable..." and much more (see photos).
Complete in 8 pages, measures about 8 1/4 by 11 1/4 inches, one leaf has some paper weakness, there is some minor loss (not to the referenced page), but the paper is otherwise in very nice and clean condition.
